Bilal Shakr, Founder of Docudrama Production, is a Kurdish filmmaker born in Erbil, Kurdistan in 1973. After his family fled to Iran due to conflict, Bilal pursued his passion for cinema, graduating from the Youth Cinema Society Institute in 2003 and completing additional courses in scriptwriting and directing. Returning to Kurdistan in 2006, he has since made significant contributions to the Kurdish film industry.
As a director, Bilal has helmed four short documentaries, five short films, a 29-episode TV series, and a feature film (Shamaran), which is currently in post-production. His writing credits include 12 feature film scripts, over 18 short films, and 3 TV series. Beyond directing and writing, he has served as first assistant director on 3 feature films , The Lost Shadow (2008), Chaplin of the Mountain (2009), and One Candle, Two Candles (2011). He has also worked as a production manager for a feature films, Where is the Land? (2012) and an acclaimed short film, Visualization (2021).
He is the owner and CEO of Docudrama Production, where he continues his dedication to storytelling through film, focusing on socially relevant topics and the resilience of the human spirit.
